Other than the heart rate monitor of the Garmin Forerunner 620 having an icon of a runner on its front and the usual built in electrocardiographic tech, this heart rate monitor squeezed in an accelerometer, not only measuring heart rate but movement as well, when strapped to the chest.

What Customers Say about the Garmin Forerunner 620:

“Probably more than I needed but I have really enjoyed it. I am motivated by being able to see metrics during and after I am running, and this watch has been great for that. I am a newbie to GPS watches and had no trouble setting it up or integrating it with Garmin Connect and My Fitness Pal. For me it has been a great tool and straightforward to employ. Using it with the heart rate monitor also allows me to track fitness zones and calorie count when I am cross training with my rower or in other activities. I also wear it as my daily watch. No cons for me.” – Donald F. Adams

What People Say about Garmin Forerunner 620 Garmin Forerunner 620 is the flagship running watch taking fitness technology to a new level

“I hesitated to order the Garmin 620 based on the negative reviews, but I’m glad I did! I love the 620 — it’s a huge step from the older model that I was using. I did have a little trouble getting it connected to my computer, but the issues were related to my computer (and USB), not the Garmin. The instructions could also be a little more detailed. However, after getting it connected to my computer and Wi-Fi, I love it! It’s light weight and very accurate. I haven’t had any trouble transferring data via Wi-Fi. The battery seems to last a lot longer than the older Garmin. The unit connects to GPS very quickly and doesn’t seem to be affected by trees, etc. All in all — a great purchase.” – Debra McDonald

“Absolutely fantastic product, been using mine for months now and have logged hundreds of runs and rides.

My first Garmin was a 210, which had its share of flaws but did reveal the superior potential of a GPS tracker. Slow to acquire GPS lock, absolutely terrible charging / data connectivity, so-so display… it was a love hate relationship up until the day the display started dying.

The Garmin 620, however, is a revelation on all fronts. It tracks far more usable data, is an excellent cycling watch when paired with the available Garmin cadence sensor, charges easily, syncs data effortlessly (the wifi is a godsend!) and the screen is excellent in most lighting conditions. The short and sweet of it, imho:

1) Highly user configurable
2) Adept at both running and cycling
3) Connectivity second to none (both in charging and data sharing)
4) Excellent combination of screen size / quality and lightweight

The only con I could think to list is price, but then again you get what you pay for. Full disclosure: I’ve only ever used Garmin GPS fitness products so that is the benchmark I’m setting the 620 to. I can say if you own an older Garmin and have any of the gripes or concerns I had with previous products, this will be worth every penny to upgrade to.” – Brian Ferrari
