TomTom Runner Cardio TomTom Runner Cardio is the best GPS enabled running watch with optical heart rate sensorThe TomTom Runner Cardio is the best GPS-enabled running watch featuring an optical heart rate sensor on its back.

The optical heart rate sensor flashes 2 green LEDs against the skin to detect blood flow volume and tracks heart rate continuously with the inclusion of a dedicated accelerometer, preventing the reading from being interrupted when moving or running.

This heart rate tracking feature of the TomTom Runner Cardio allows for training within heart rate intensity zones, indicating how hard the running is, measured in bpm a.k.a. beats per minute.

Heart rate intensity zones are Easy – 75 to 113 bpm, Fat Burn – 113 to 131 bpm, Endure – 131 to 150 bpm, Speed – 150 to 169 bpm and Sprint – 169 to 187 bpm for optimum running performance measurement.

The heart rate measurement of the TomTom Runner Cardio proves to be stable and accurate versus a standard chest strap monitor, making it ideal for runners hating to wear a chest strap to keep track of heart rates.

Other than the new sensor, a much longer battery life and a thicker band, the overall design and menus of the TomTom Runner Cardio are almost identical to its predecessor, the TomTom Runner.

It comes in red on black or red on white models, with a flexible, thicker rubber watch strap, secured around the wrist by a new 3-pronged clasp and a hole design, holding the GPS module and watch display in place.

The TomTom Runner Cardio has a new stopwatch option, useful when working on sprint training.

What People Say about TomTom Runner Cardio:

What People Say about Tomtom Runner Cardio TomTom Runner Cardio is the best GPS enabled running watch with optical heart rate sensor“I have tried a few GPS watches for distance running and triathlon training. While there are some software improvements that I would love to see (such as allowing a user to select options for a program – GPS, heart rate, etc… and not only allowing the options they have set for you – Freestyle, Run, Cycle, etc…) I love that there are regular software updates that give you new functionality and fix bugs. Previous watches I have had did not allow this and what you bought was what you got; bugs and all.” – Sarah H

“Does everything as advertised. Fits well, hooks to GPS very quickly and I have used it in many places I travel. I love that you do not need to use a chest strap to monitor heart rate. Down over 20 pounds using it to run. Also very easy to link to your phone for wireless upload and simple to send data to multiple sites if you want to do so. Currently I use Strava and Runkeeper.” – Alan Schwartz

“This thing is freaking awesome. Super quick satellite acquisition. So fast in fact that it often grabs the SAT before it can pick up my HR. Both are quick. 5-10seconds for the SAT and 20-30 second for the HR. Works well, it’s light, least expensive offering with this level of features. Obviously there are better multi-sport watches (Suunto Ambit 3 comes to mind) but I REALLY like not having to wear a chest strap. Kudos to TomTom.” – Levi
